Vietnamese youth pursue startup ideas in digital technology

The annual award, with the theme “Value chains in the agricultural production and food processing industry” is organised by Doanh nhân Sài Gòn (Sài Gòn Entrepreneurs) newspaper.

It also honours outstanding students with the know-how to be entrepreneurs and understand business ethics.

The award is named after Luong Van Can (1854-1927), who wrote popular books on business and is considered a guru by Vietnamese business people who appreciate his maxim "The secret of a successful business is honesty".

Tran Hoang, deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper and head of the organisation board, said: “Focusing on one field, it is easier for the award’s board to choose winners and help them turn ideas into reality.”

Students from colleges and universities in Vietnam and abroad can join the competition as an individual or in groups of no more than three.

There will be one first prize, one second prize, and one third prize with total value of VND780 million (US$33,335), including cash awards and other support.

All winners will have a chance to call for investment in their business ideas.

The organisation board has signed cooperation agreements with Sài Gòn Entrepreneurs Club, HCM City Food and Foodstuff Association and Startup Viet Nam Foundation.
The first award was organised in 2011. Over eight years, it received a total of 21,000 entries, with 177 selected for prizes.
