Nam who is ranked 884th in the world started from the qualification round.

He received a walkover to the second qualifier match after Japanese Sora Fukuda quit because of injury with the score at 6-4, 4-1.

Nam then defeated another player of the hosts, Yuichi Ito, ranked World No 848, 6-2, 7-6 for a berth in the main round.

The hard court tournament will provide US$10,000 to the winners. The final is scheduled for March 27.
