Both VFF and Chung had entered into negotiations and reached a consensus on a contract lasting from May 9, 2024, to December 31, 2025.
As the national team do not compete in any international tournament, they will hold a training camp abroad in July and August to prepare for coming domestic and overseas competitions.
The national team are gearing up for upcoming global tournaments ahead in 2025, including the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship, the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup qualification.
Chung, 73, has spent a total of 12 years as head coach of the national women's team. The national side have won six gold medals in eight SEA Games, including four consecutive victories from 2017 to 2023.
The team also won the 2019 AFF Cup. Last year Vietnam achieved a historic feat by competing in the final round of 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time ever.
Chung also set a record as the oldest coach at a World Cup. He was 72 years, one month, and 11 days old at the time.
