VietNamNet Bridge – Singaporean painter Choo Meng Foo is organizing an exhibition entitled “Vietnam Portrait” at the Art Accent gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from May 10-19.

Choo is displaying more than 20 works, predominantly in black and white water colours, featuring peaceful, contemporary life, beautiful landscape and simplicity of rustic Vietnamese people.

In the painting "At the Corner of Hanoi Cathedral," the artist depicts local residents sitting and sipping iced coffee or lemonade at roadside bars after a hard summer working day.

“A Bicycle Shop”, “A Motorcycle Shop” and “A Street with Many Motorbikes” illustrate the artist’s impressions of the capital city, which has millions of two-wheeled vehicles.

Other pieces, such as "The Peddlers," "Two Sisters," and "A Girl on Ha Long Bay" reflect the beautiful souls of hard working Vietnamese women.

Choo said he has shown his paintings of Vietnam in Singapore for several times. This is the first time he has displayed them in Malaysia to celebrate 40 years of Vietnam-Malaysia diplomatic ties.

He plans to return to Vietnam in the future and says Sapa will be a good new destination for him to experience.

He also says he hopes to have an exhibition of his work in Vietnam in the future, perhaps in Ho Chi Minh City.
