According to the Vietnamese trade mission in Malaysia, the country had invested a total of US$13.5 billion in Vietnam as of 2015, ranking 7th among 110 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, up one place from 2014.
In 2015 alone, Malaysia ranked second among 62 foreign investors in Vietnam, after the Republic of Korea.
Malaysian investment was mainly concentrated in property development, manufacturing and thermal power generation.
According to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Malaysia in 2015 reached nearly US$7.8 billion, down 5.2% from the previous year.
Vietnam’s exports to Malaysia fell 8.8% to approximately US$3.6 billion while imports rose by a slight 0.2% to US$4.2 billion.
