Malaysian model Siew Pui Yi caused offence after posting a photo wearing only an ao dai tunic without the trousers on April 4. The post on her Instagram received over 300,000 likes within 12 hours and lots of comments, which also included many criticisms.

One Instagram user commented, "You should respect the ao dai.” Another wrote, "Please take down this photo because it is offensive to Vietnamese culture." Some others showed their anger both in Vietnamese and English, saying “We don't welcome you to Hoi An.”
Speaking on the issue, head of the Hoi An City Department of Culture and Information, Tong Quoc Hung, said that they were trying to find the woman's address to issue a warning about her outfit on April 5.

"This wasn’t the first time someone has posted revealing photos during their visits to Hoi An," Hung said. "However, we now can only give warnings to them as there is no legal way of addressing the problem."

The Malaysian model usually shares photos wearing revealing clothing. It is said that Siew Pui Yi came to Vietnam a week ago. She has also posted a photo in which she wore a white bikini while sitting on a boat on a local river.
