VietNamNet Bridge – Doan Van Dung, a 32-year-old man who was alleged of illegally producing fireworks and causing a large explosion on Saturday afternoon in northern Thai Binh Province, was temporarily jailed and prosecuted on the same day.

Colonel Tran Xuan Tuyet, director of the Thai Binh Department of Public Security, revealed the news, adding that Dung's sister had died in the explosion that had also caused injuries to her husband and family.

Other houses in the neighbourhood also suffered damage, with windows and doors shattered.

A neighbour said he was awoken by a deafening noise and strong vibrations and found broken glass in his yard.

"We ran to the house to find the door closed, and we had to break in," said the neighbour. "The scene was terrible, the house was almost completely destroyed with bricks scattered and smoke everywhere."

He added that two motorbikes were on fire and a large amount of blood was found in the kitchen, and the scent of fireworks could be smelt everywhere.

Doan Van Dung said he was rolling the fireworks in the kitchen when the explosion occured.

The cause of the explosion is so far unknown, but according to the police, judging from the extent of the explosion, the quantity of explosives must have been substantial.

Further investigations are ongoing.
