VietNamNet Bridge – Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City are performing operation to cut off two big tumors, totaling 17 kilos, for Mr. Le Thanh Vu, 25, from the southern province of Kien Giang.

The two tumors appeared when Vu was three years old. They kept growing to reach a total weight of 17 kilos, including a 10 kilo tumor on an arm and a 7 kilo tumor on the back.

The giant tumors pressed the left lung, deformed the patient’s arm, rib-cage and spinal column.

After 22 years living together with the two tumors, Vu was hospitalized to Cho Ray Hospital on May 16. Doctors made tests and determined that the man suffered from a rare disease.

On June 7, the 7 kilo tumor was cut off, in a three-hour operation.

“The tumor on the back was cut off first because it affected the patient’s sleep and it was easy to be gaping,” said doctor Tran Doan Dao, head of the Burn-Plastic Surgery Ward.

The second tumor will be cut off later.
