According to MIC, from July 1 to August 31, 2023, Facebook blocked and removed more than 674,000 articles posting false information and propaganda against the Party, State, brands, organizations and individuals in Vietnam.

During this time, TikTok removed 64 links that posted false information and negative content. In particular, this social network deleted four accounts that distorted Vietnam's territorial sovereignty and spread images of maps with the illegal "cow tongue" line; 19 accounts that regularly posted anti-Party and State content; and 13 accounts that defamed and insulted leaders.

Google removed 2,343 videos in violation on the YouTube platform, and 10 channels with content against the Party and State, with about 22,500 videos.

Controlling cross-border social networking platforms is a policy that has been implemented by the MIC for many years. The activity includes forcing cross-border platforms to comply with Vietnamese laws, removing malicious, false and negative information that adversely affects society.

Previously, the MIC’s Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information asked Netflix to remove illegal content in the documentary "MH370 -The Plane That Disappeared" provided on Netflix's service in Vietnam.

Most recently, the MIC coordinated with the Department of Cinema under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to detect and handle a Chinese movie on Netflix that showed the illegal "cow tongue line", violating the provisions of Vietnamese law, affecting the sovereignty of islands and sea.

The MIC is collecting comments on the draft Decree replacing Decree 72/2013/ND-CP and Decree 27/2018/ND-CP on management, provision and use of internet services and information on the internet.

The draft includes new regulations on management, provision, and use of Internet services and online information. Specifically, domestic and foreign organizations and individuals providing information online must prevent and remove content that violates the law that affects national security, at the request of the MIC.

Moreover, social networks will have to temporarily or permanently lock accounts, community pages, community groups and channels that frequently violate or commit serious violations affecting national security.

Individuals and organizations that use Internet services to provide content that sabotages the Party and the State in the online environment may even have their Internet services stopped.
