The erosion at Phu Thuan Beach
|
Dang Tien Tuy, chairman of Phu Thuan Commune People’s Committee in Phu Vang District, said that local authorities have planned to move 12 local households with a total number of 40 people to safe places.
The erosion stretching along the three villages of An Duong 1, 2 and 3 was the result of flood tides.
The most serious situation is at An Duong 1 Village, where the entire 400-metre beach have been damaged with thousands of cubic of metres of soil and dozens of trees swept away.
In addition to the 12 households to be evacuated, around 30 others are also threatened by the problem.
According to Tuy, around 300 coastal trees in the area would be ruined or swept away by erosion. Preventive forests along Phu Thuan Beach would be at risk.
This issue has existed for many years. Roughly 600 households have been warned for being affected.
Between 2012 and 2017, some 40 households have been relocated to other resettlement areas.
The province invested VND100 billion (USD4.3 million) for building 830 metres of dykes in total to protect the beach. However, many sections of beach have not yet been consolidated.
