This information was unveiled by Hoang Minh Chien, deputy director of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) on March 30 at a regular press conference.

Chien said the MoIT has actively co-ordinated alongside relevant agencies in recent times to strengthen connectivity and support the consumption of farm produce both at home and abroad.

The MoiT also plans to deploy a range of digital applications to help farmers introduce their products on social networking sites moving forward.

Sharing this same perspective, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said that the MoIT has also actively connected with several major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Global Selling, and Alibaba to assist local firms in the consumption of their products.

Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Import-Export Department, said the consumption of agricultural products, especially items such as rice, coffee, and seafood in the first quarter of the year witnessed robust growth, with export revenue reaching US$7.2 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 19%.

However, there has been a number of difficulties in terms of exporting fruit products to China via border gates recently as the northern neighbour has tightened COVID-19 regulations.

MoIT officials underscored the importance of increasing the export of fruit exports via official channels in the near future, while also instructing businesses to change their delivery methods by utilizing other transport modes such as rail and sea routes.
