Marathon to be held in picturesque Ha Long Bay
An international marathon will be organised in Ha Long, Quang Ninh Province on October 10.
The Ha Long Bay Marathon will offer full, half, 10km and 5km events for professionals and 2km category for amateur runners.
It is expected that more than 500 international athletes, mainly from Japan, will compete against 100 local competitors. Another 1,000 runners from companies, colleges and schools located in the province will take part in this first ever tournament.
The marathon is being co-organised by the provincial Culture, Sports and Tourism Department and the Ha Long Bay Marathon Organisation Committee, which is a member of of the Japanese Marathon Association.
The event is among the activities welcoming the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Quang Ninh and the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam-Japan diplomatic ties.
Vietnam to host 2013 U13 ASEAN Cup
Hanoi’s National My Dinh Stadium will host the 2013 U13 Southeast Asian Football Tournament (2013 Yamaha Cup) from October 4–6.
Six foreign squads from Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, and the two Vietnamese representatives Viettel and defending national champions Song Lam Nghe An, will fight it out to be crowned the best U13 team in Southeast Asia.
A round robin format will determine the two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.
The Yamaha Cup’s final round is scheduled for the afternoon of October 6.
This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the championship. In 2008, Vietnam’s U13 Danang team claimed overall victory after defeating their Malaysian rivals 4-0.
VN succumb to Thailand in regional futsal contest
Viet Nam suffered their first loss of the Southeast Asia Women's Futsal Championship after losing to Thailand 5-2 in their second match on Monday in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.
The win pushes the Thais to the top of the group with six points from two matches while Viet Nam have now dropped to second place with three points from two games.
The team previously came back from 2-0 down to beat Myanmar 4-3 in the opening game.
Viet Nam will meet bottom team Malaysia in the last match at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex.

Vietnam wins Asian fencing silver
Vietnam clinched a silver medal at the Asian U-23 Fencing Championships in Kuwait last week.
The trio Tien Nhat, Hung Duong and Nhat Minh lost 43-45 to Chinese rivals in the final match for the men’s epee team.
At the tournament, fencer Nhat Minh ranked seventh out of 45 competitors in the men’s individual epee.
Vietnam sent 15 fencers to compete in the regional event which took place from September 22-29.
