On the second day of the second lunar month, people flock to Phu Luu commune of Ham Yen district, in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang for a unique market which is only held once a year to buy and sell luck for the year.

Unlike other markets, this annual market at Thụt hamlet, Phù Lưu commune, Hàm Yên district is unique as customers don’t bargain and sellers don’t overcharge. They sell bad luck and buy good luck. Thus, everyone who visits always buys something as souvenir.

Besides agricultural products and food, the traditional brocade costumes of local ethnic communities are also on sale.

With a variety of agricultural specialties that feature the unique characteristics of a mountainous region, the Thụt market has attracted thousands of tourists both at home and abroad, contributing to furthering the potential of local tourism. –VNA
