The World Cup, an official tournament of the International Sport Shooting Federation (ISSF), will draw nearly 600 marksmen from 70 countries.

Apart from Viet Nam five other Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, will also compete at the event.

The Vietnamese team consists of six members including Ha Minh Thanh (men's rapid pistol), Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong (men's slow pistol and air pistol), Le Thi Hoang Ngoc and Pham Thi Ha (women's sport pistol and air pistol) and Tham Thuy Hong (women's air rifle).

During April's World Cup held in South Korea early this year, Viet Nam's Thanh ranked fifth in the men's rapid pistol event. Thanh earned a silver medal at the 16th Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China, in November 2010.

Thanh's senior, Tran Quoc Cuong, who narrowly missed out on third place after losing a shoot-off at the World Cup held in China last year, is expected to shine at the US event.

According to head coach Nguyen Thi Nhung the Cup is one of the most high-class competitions in the world and will afford Vietnamese marksmen a chance to gain experience and improve their techniques. The team will work as hard as possible in order to reach the final rounds of the competition, which will provide the team with an excellent opportunity to collect points in qualifying for the up coming London Olympics held next year.
