The dead fish were found along the Ganh Hao, Bay Hap and Muong Dieu rivers in Trung Cang, Thanh Vong and Tan Phu hamlets, respectively, in Tan Trung Commune on Sunday.
Surveys of the local authority and the provincial Natural Resources and Environment Department (NRED) said polluted water was the cause.
“We can only confirm that the water in the area is contaminated. But we have not yet determined the main cause of pollution. It can be discharge of waste water into the rivers generating every day in households, industrial zones or both,” said NRED director Trinh Van Len.
It was the People’s Committee’s sixth report on fish deaths since the end of 2016. According to the committee, mass fish deaths have been recurring in the locality since May.
Meanwhile, farming households have been avoiding getting water into shrimp ponds for several months for fear of similar situation.
