VietNamNet Bridge – A collective wedding for 120 pairs of young, low-income workers will be held at the Grand Palace in Ho Chi Minh City on December 12, 2012.

The event aims to take care of disadvantaged young workers and honour the fine traditions of Vietnamese weddings, while eliminating costly and unsound feudal customs, according to a press briefing on June 20.

The wedding program includes a flower parade through major streets in the southern city, an offer of bouquets at the Statue to Ho Chi Minh, traditional wedding rituals and training in family skills.

Couples that register for the program will be given ATM accounts with a balance of VND2 million, and will be assisted with flower arrangement and cakes, photo shoots, video recording, make-up services and wedding outfits.  There will also be 10 pairs of wedding rings worth VND8 million on offer for those most disadvantaged.

The list of 120 couples participating in the event will be announced on October 22.

In 2011, 80 worker couples took part in the program, with support from donors and the public.
