A mas wedding is held for 65 disabled couples in Hanoi on June 23

The wedding was held at Trong Dong Palace in Hanoi on June 23.

The event, called The Dream Is Real, was also a response to the Vietnam Family Day on June 28.

Tran Van Tuong, born in 1987, has brittle bone disease which makes his life very difficult. He is just one-metre tall and weighs 28 kilos. He met his wife, An Thi Kim Tien, born 1990, at a job training centre. The couples said were very happy to be able to have a proper wedding.

Luong Van Quy and Hoang Thi Luyen from Ha Giang Province also share the same mood to have a wedding held. Quy is blind since birth. His wife is also blind due to Agent Orange. They met at the Disability Association of Ha Giang Province and started a family together 14 years ago.

Luyen said she had never worn a wedding dress. "Even though we have never seen each other, we can feel our love for the other. Life is difficult but together, we will overcome everything," she said.

Wedding photos will be given to the couple among other gifts

Nguyen Thi Hao, director of Hanoi Centre for Women's Support and Development, said, "As a woman, I always want to help other women. Holding a wedding may not be a big problem for many people but to the couples here, it was like a dream."

The couples were also given a wedding photo, a wedding album and other gifts as a memento.

This is the second time the event was held in Hanoi. The organisers hope to get more support from the authorities and community to make this an annual event. Dtinews
