Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presides over the ninth meeting of the State Steering Committee for National and Key Transport Projects

Chinh recently presided over the ninth meeting of the State Steering Committee for National and Key Transport Projects. He noted that domestic investment, foreign direct investment (FDI), private investment, and society’s investments all drive economic growth.

Public investment disbursement not only serves as a driving force but also reduces logistics costs for enterprises and cuts input costs. New development spaces will open up wherever roads reach, especially in industrial zones, urban areas and service areas.

“Every transport work has its function and tasks, but all are extremely important and serve as strategic breakthroughs,” Chinh said.

The 2021-2022 period was the time for preparing and approving transport projects, while 2023 was the time for massive deployment and success in infrastructure development.

However, Chinh pointed out that some projects have been going slowly because of lengthy administrative procedures, tardiness in site clearance, and problems with supplies.

He urged state agencies and investors to propose solutions to shorten project implementation, while ensuring the quality of the work. They should eliminate problems in using ODA (official development assistance) capital and begin to use sea sand in building transport works.

According to the Ministry of Transport, in 2023 the Prime Minister presided over five working sessions of the steering committee, and, together with several Deputy Prime Ministers, inspected many construction sites.

On February 12-13, Chinh and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha visited five construction sites in Hanoi, HCM City, Dong Nai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau to inspect projects.

Thirty-four large projects and 86 component projects are being implemented in 46 provinces and cities, including five railway and two airport projects. The others are roads, mostly highways and belt roads in Hanoi and HCM City.
