Specifically, Nguyen Van Nhat was fined 5 million VND ($200) and suspended from all football activities managed by the VFF for 12 months due to his involvement in attempting to manipulate the match outcome.

According to a report from the U16 Ho Chi Minh City women's football team, during the 2024 National U16 Women's Football Championship, Nguyen Van Nhat approached the head coach of the U16 Ho Chi Minh City women's team with a proposal to instruct his players to underperform, allowing U16 Thai Nguyen to win 2-0 in their match on July 21, 2024.

However, the Ho Chi Minh City coach refused the proposal and reported the incident to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). In the match on July 21, U16 Ho Chi Minh City and U16 Thai Nguyen ended in a 1-1 draw. After failing to secure the agreement, on the evening of July 21, 2024, Nguyen Van Nhat sent insulting and even threatening messages to the head coach of the U16 Ho Chi Minh City team.

Considering the complex nature of the incident, on July 23 and 24, the VFF's relevant committees met with the involved parties and invited the Criminal Police Department to participate. During the meeting, Nguyen Van Nhat admitted to proposing that the U16 Ho Chi Minh City coach have his team underperform to allow U16 Thai Nguyen to win 2-0. He also admitted to sending insulting and threatening messages following the refusal.

Duong Nghiep Khoi, VFF General Secretary, stated that all documents related to the case have been transferred to the VFF Disciplinary Committee for sanctions. Khoi emphasized that the VFF is committed to decisively addressing negative behaviors to ensure the sustainable and clean development of Vietnamese football.
