Cau Ngu Festival and tourist cultural week to open in Phan Thiet
One year ago, fishermen in Cai Cung did a hard work: dragging the body of a 15-tonne
whale for 26 nautical miles to bury and build a tomb for him in Cai Cung.
On February 21, 2010, fishermen in Bac Lieu province found the body of a whale around 16
nautical milnes from Cai Cung beach. They used ten fishing boats to pull the body to the shore.
Thousands of people went to Cai Cung to worship the dead whale.
The fish was loaded on the shore and then put into a glass box.
Three months later, it was cut up. Meat was buried and the bones
were arranged in a glass box in the “Whale tomb”.
The Whale tomb is built with the money raised from fishermen.
On February 11, fishermen performed the “Welcome Whale” rituals to pray for a good year.
