Russian secret services would regularly uncover and destroy the al-Qaida envoys that the international terrorist network sends to Russian territory, President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday.
Speaking to a meeting of the country's security and law enforcement services, Medvedev said that al-Qaida has been trying to slip agents into Russia, the Interfax news agency reported.
Therefore, he proposed that the national security services should develop the "universal algorithm of actions" to deal with emergencies, including terror attacks, that might endanger Russian citizens or state interests.
He also demanded to reconsider the security level of the Russia's foreign missions.
Russian security forces killed an al-Qaida emissary in an operation last week in the North Caucasus region.
