On December 26, Van Thi Huu Tam, Deputy Director of HCMC Urban Railway Company Limited No. 1 (HURC1), reported that after four days of operation, residents have gradually adapted to using the metro for commuting to work, school, and leisure activities.

The Ben Thanh Station remains the busiest hub, attracting the highest number of passengers.

Metro operations and passenger statistics

On December 25 alone, HURC1 operated 200 train trips, maintaining an average interval of 12 minutes per trip during off-peak hours and 8 minutes per trip during peak hours. A total of 115,962 passengers were transported, averaging 580 passengers per train.

Over the four-day period, 797 train trips were made, transporting 394,967 passengers. The highest passenger turnout was on the first day, with 149,870 passengers, while the second day saw the lowest, with 38,751 passengers.

QR code system to launch in 2025

Metro Line 1 officially began operations on December 22 after 12 years of construction. During the initial free trial period, passengers are not required to use tickets, apps, or ID cards to access the metro.

Starting January 2, 2025, HURC1 will implement an access control system. Passengers will need to download the HCMC Metro HURC app on their smartphones and generate a QR code to ride the metro.

Passengers can also use bank cards (Mastercard) or bring their ID cards (CCCD) and use the VNeID app to obtain assistance at metro stations for card issuance.

By January 10, 2025, additional payment methods will be available, including Visa, JCB, American Express, Union Pay, and Napas cards, which can be scanned at entry and exit gates equipped with readers.

Children under 14 and other passengers will receive guidance and support from station staff to ensure smooth use of the service.
