VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has jumped six notches to reach the top of the list of Government ministries effectively using information technology (IT).

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) are second and third on the list, according to an MIC report on IT application in ministries and provincial authorities released on Thursday, May 2.

The SBV has improved the most, rising from 12th place last year to third this year, while the Ministry of Education and Training, which occupied the top spot in 2011, fell to seventh place in 2012.

Of the 22 Government ministries and agencies mentioned in the report, the MIC and Ministry of Construction websites were rated the best.

The Ministry of Defence was the last ministry to go online, launching its portal in December 2012.

In the rankings of provincial authorities, Da Nang maintained its top position, followed by Hanoi and Thanh Hoa Province.

Tra Vinh took the lead in IT infrastructure investment while An Giang was named the most effective user of IT applications to serve the public and enterprises.

In terms of information securities, Da Nang City and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai and Bac Lieu provinces are the leaders.

The MIC has released annual reports on deploying and applying IT for the operations of State agencies since 2008.
