VietNamNet Bridge – The General Statistics Office (GSO) launched the mid-term housing and population census on April 1.

The census aims to collect data on population and housing across the country, which will be used as a basis for evaluation of national programmes on population and housing; the implementation of socio-economic development plans in the 2011-2015 period; as well as the building of policies and plans for socio-economic development in the 2016-2020 period.

The GSO has asked its local branches to conduct the census in a quick and serious manner in order to collect accurate and timely information, as well as ensure information confidentiality in accordance with the Statistics Law.

The housing and population census began at 7.00am on April 1 and will conclude no later than April 20.

The GSO has also mobilised around 13,000 enumerators for this year’s census.

Data is scheduled to be released at the end of December, 2014.
