The World’s renowned cyclist Mike Hall will return to Vietnam to take part in ‘Cycle a Difference 2015’ journey.
UK Consul General in HCM City, Douglas Barnes, gave the information at a launch ceremony in HCM City on June 17 and added that Mike will lead the 1,500km race from the northern Lao Cai province to central Danang province in November.
Mike Hall won ‘round the world cycle’ record in 2012. He rode 18,000 miles through 20 countries and four continents in 92 days to beat the previous world record for circumnavigating the globe on a bicycle by nearly two weeks.
Mike will be accompanied by Juliana Buhring who is a British-German ultra-endurance cyclist and writer. In December 2012, she set the first Guinness World Record as the Fastest Woman to Circumnavigate the Globe by Bike, riding over 29,000 kilometres (18,000 miles) in a total time of 152 days (144 actual days in the saddle).
David Lloyd, who completed the Vietnam first race ‘Everesting’ by riding bike to Ba Vi mountain nine rounds per day, will also participate in the event.
UK-based charity Newborns Vietnam organised the ‘Cycle a Difference’ event with the aim of raising fund for saving babies from their first breath. It has so far raised more than US$450,000.
Douglas Barnes said this will be a great challenge for UK and international athletes to support Newborns Vietnam’s lofty work to save the lives of Vietnamese babies.
