The information was revealed by Pham Van Tuan, deputy director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and deputy head of the event’s steering committee, at a press brief in Hanoi on March 12.

The event is among practical activities to celebrate the Vietnam Sports Day (March 27) and mark the 69th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for mass participation in sports activities (March 27, 1946-2015).

The Olympic Day Run aims to form the practice of participation in sports among the community, promote healthy lifestyle and raise public awareness on the importance of physical exercise for people’s general health and wellbeing, Tuan said.

Over 50 cities and provinces have responded to the event so far and have drawn up specific implementation plans with various contents, scales and forms. During the event, music and sport performances will also be held to add to the festive atmosphere, he added.

In Hanoi, a ceremony will be staged at 7am on March 22 in Hoan Kiem district’s Trang Tien commune to launch the 2015 Olympic Day Run, with participants, including Hanoi leaders, officials, athletes and citizens, completing one round of Hoan Kiem Lake, a distance of approximately 1,700 metres.
