Second seed Minh needed only 40 minutes to win his third round match.

His next rival will be Wing Ki Wong, seeded six, of Hong Kong. Wing beat Yong Zhao Ashton Chen of Singapore 21-16, 21-16 yesterday.

In the women's singles, Vu Thi Trang was eliminated in the first round, losing 7-21, 14-21 to No 3 seed Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong.

The tournament will wrap-up on Sunday with the winners sharing US$200,000 in prize money.
