VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam's top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh came from behind to beat Yi Lu in the third round of the Yonex Australian Open Grand Prix Gold yesterday in Melbourne.

No 2 seed Minh worked hard for over an hour to overthrow the unknown rival from China 16-21, 21-16, 21-10.

Defending champion Minh will next meet No 6 Sho Sasaki of Japan in the quarter-final. Sasaki earlier defeated No 10 Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia 21-17, 21-11.

Top seed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand saw off Arvind Bhat of India in this round and will meet Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia today, April 8.

The annual event attracted 376 players who are competing for a cash prize of US$120,000.


* Dong Thap win month's top prizes

Football club Dong Thap scored a double to take the top prizes for March.

The club edged Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Song Lam Nghe An to become the best club of March, thanks to impressive victories over Ha Noi T&T and Song Lam Nghe An.

Dong Thap's Nigerian striker Samson Kayode, who scored five goals in four matches in March, was voted the best player of the month.

Kayode is currently the top goal scorer in the V-League with nine goals.

The best coach of the month went to young coach Nguyen Huu Thang, who helped SLNA top the table with 20 points.

Binh Duong's American midfielder Lee Nguyen's 30m free kick in the match against Thanh Hoa at Binh Duong Stadium was voted as the goal of the month.
