However, her husband Nguyen Tien Minh, the country’s top player and the tournament’s No 1 seed, was ousted when he lost to Riichi Takeshita of Japan 16-21, 21-14 and 11-21 after 58 minutes in the men’s singles category.
At present, the HCM City-born player Minh is world No 51, while Takeshita is world No 134.
Minh was also defeated by Takeshita at the New Zealand Open 2016.
Other Vietnamese representatives also failed in the men’s singles. Pham Cao Cuong, world No 82 and the tournament’s No 8 seed lost to Japanese Naoki Yamazawa, world No 252, 21-18, 12-21, 19-21 after 49 minutes. No 4 seed Koki Watanabe of Japan beat Vietnamese Le Duc Phat 21-14, 21-18 after 37 minutes.
Vietnam sent eight players to compete in the five-day event, which will conclude on Sunday.
