VietNamNet Bridge – Hanoi’s Tran Tuan Minh won gold in the men’s standard chess event after nine rounds at the National Sports Games yesterday in the capital.

Minh, Elo 2,524, defeated his fellow Hanoians Tran Minh Thang, Nguyen Van Huy and Bui Vinh in the early rounds.

Though he lost to first seed Le Quang Liem, Elo 2,714 from Ho Chi Minh City in the seventh, he recovered to win in the final two rounds.

Minh has undergone a busy year competing abroad. He will represent Vietnam at Asian Chess Championship at the Philippines from December 9 to 19.

Liem also won a gold in blitz chess with 8.5 points after nine rounds.

Meanwhile, Doan Thi Van Anh from Bac Giang Province won gold in women’s standard chess with 7.5 points after nine rounds, while Hoang Thi Bao Tram from HCM City won the women’s blitz chess.

The team’s blitz chess and fast chess events begin today.

To date, host Hanoi team rank top in the medal table with 106 gold medals, followed by HCM City with 87 and the Military team with 43.
