The pregnant woman had called the taxi to go to hospital for her delivery on the morning of March 25. However, she went into labour while travelling in the taxi. After she developed labour pains, the baby's head started coming out.

The taxi driver quickly stopped the vehicle and called his mother for instructions to help the woman in giving birth. Finally, the woman delivered a healthy baby girl.

Minister Tien said the taxi driver's action was really appreciated not only for the woman's sake, but also the national medical sector.

In another development, Chief of the ministry's office Nguyen Xuan Truong yesterday (April 7) ordered the HCM City's health department to urgently clarify the allegations made by a man that his father developed fever and showed symptoms of suffocation when he was in Nguyen Trai Hospital's cardiology department on March 26.

The patient's relatives searched for the doctor in charge during that night shift so that the patient could be given medical aid within 30 minutes, but the doctor was not to be found in the hospital. The patient had reportedly died by the time the doctor came.

Director of the hospital Vo Van Tien said he has asked the concerned doctor to write a detailed report of the case.
