The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has approved the dumping of 14.3 million cubic metres of mud off the coast of the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Long Son Petrochemicals Company has been allowed to dump the mud at a 600-hectare area with the depth of 30-34 metres. The dumping time will last for two years, starting from April 1 this year.  

The mud was from the dredge of Long Son petrochemical complex.

According to a report from the Ba Ria-Vung Tau People's Committee, the area for the dumping can store around up to 69 million cubic metres of mud.

The firm will have to pay VND135 billion (USD5.8 million) for using the dumping area.

The dumping will be followed by supervising equipment connected to management agencies.

The company will have to stop the work in case the mud contains substances with content higher than permitted.

Thailand’s SCG Group has invested USD5.4 billion into Long Son petrochemical complex. The project covers 658 hectares, including 194 hectares on water.
