VietNamNet Bridge – The Environment Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will focus on handling firms that are responsible for pollution this year in an effort to better protect the environment, according to deputy director Nguyen The Dong.

Inspections will cover factories in industrial zones along the Cau, Nhue, Day, Sai Gon and Dong Nai rivers and those operating in aquaculture and waste treatment regulated by Prime Minister Decree No 64, to raise measures against violations.

Last year, inspections were implemented in 32 provinces and cities with total collected fines of VND22 billion (US$1.05 million).
