Thanh said from this week, at the request of the city, the Ministry of Public Security would increase an additional 600 mobile police officers for Ho Chi Minh City to serve crime prevention at the end of the year, on key routes.

Reviewing the month for fighting crime in HCM City, the General said that the campaign was very effective, with the close coordination between all police forces.

During this campaign, from 15/12/2012 to 01/15/2013, the number of criminal cases reduced by 97 cases from the previous month, robbery cases also fell by 99 cases, and theft cases also down by 33.

For drug-related crime, HCM City police arrested 171 subjects, seized 4 kg of heroin, 2.5 kg of synthetic drugs, VND7 billion ($350,000) and $150,000.

The police also increased administrative inspection of inns, motels and entertainment facilities where supply sensitive services.

Chairman of the HCM City People's Committee Le Hoang Quan said that in the time before the lunar New Year 2013, the security and order situation would be increasingly sophisticated and unpredictable. He asked the police to further improve accountability, continuously change the mode of operation, work more closely with the relevant agencies, and research new security and order control models at commune and ward levels to enhance the role of local governments.
