VietNamNet Bridge – On January 16, the Police Investigation Department of Social Security Crime (C45) said that the agency, in collaboration with the Police Department Against High-tech Crime (C50,) discovered an online gambling ring worth hundreds of millions of US dollars.

Earlier, C45 broke a big gambling ring in Bac Ninh province and was rewarded by the Ministry of Public Security.


The same day, the investigating agency arrested seven people, including five in Ho Chi Minh City and two in Hanoi. The two defendants in Hanoi are Cu Huy Giap from Hai Ba Trung district and Nguyen Anh Thai from Dong Da District.

According to preliminary information from the police, this ring offered online gambles in various forms, such as horse racing, football, tennis, etc. The gambling money transferred abroad every day was up to hundreds of billion dong (tens of million USD).

The investigation agency tracked this ring for a long time before breaking it. Even the family of some defendants were very surprised to know that their husbands or fathers involving in illegal gambling.

During more than one year of operation, this online gambling line transferred thousands of billion dong (hundreds of million USD) abroad. The ring covered many provinces and cities across the country.

The police are continuing investigation and hunt related people.

Earlier, on December 4, 2012, Lieutenant General Pham Quy Ngo, Deputy Minister of Public Security praised the victory of the police forces involved in breaking the big gambling ring in Bac Ninh.

Ngo said the task of investigating agencies in the near future is investigating big bosses who use the state money to gamble overseas.
