VietNamNet Bridge – Chief of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Office – Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung said, the deadline was over but the implementation of the death penalty by lethal injection has not been applicable. The Ministry of Public Security has proposed the National Assembly to conduct both lethal injection and firing squad.

The number of backlog of prisoners under death penalty is now more than 500 people.

Hung told the press that the biggest hindrance for lethal injection is the drugs.

Hung recalled: "At the last question session of the National Assembly, the Head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Nguyen Hoa Binh said that the deadline for implementing the government’s decree on lethal injection but so far, the authorities have not handled the problems."

Hung said the Ministry of Public Security had proposed to conduct the death penalty by lethal injection and firing as before, but the National Assembly has not answered.

Because of these difficulties and problems the implementation of the death penalty by lethal injection cannot be immediately applied in Vietnam. As a result, over 500 prisoners under death penalty have to wait.
