VietNamNet Bridge – Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang said that to deter traffic rule violators, administrative fines must be raised and more forms of punishment must be applied, including confiscation of vehicles.
At the national conference on traffic held in Hanoi on November 28, Minister Quang said that it is necessary to seize vehicles of racers to prevent illegal racing, which is very serious in big cities like Hanoi, HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

He suggested allowing traffic law violators to pay fines through banking accounts. Accordingly, car owners have to open banking accounts with at least VND20 million ($1,000). If they break the law, fines will be deducted in their accounts.

Hanoi Police Department’s director Nguyen Duc Nhanh said that at present, only racers who cause accidents are punished. Normally, racers have to pay fines of VND10-20 million ($500-$1,000) only.

“If the government permits police to seize all racing vehicles, I believe that nobody will dare to race in Hanoi,” Nhanh affirmed.

Earlier, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang proposed to seize and destroy racing vehicles. Thang’s idea is controversial as many people said that it is a waste to destroy racing vehicles.
