Rescuers search for the Belerusian visitor at Pongour waterfall in Lam Dong

In the document sent to the municipal and provincial People’s Committees nationwide, the ministry said two serious accidents happened at waterfalls in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong in late February, claiming the lives of four foreign visitors.

The incidents showed the mismanagement of concerned agencies over the places of interest, said the ministry.

It warned that similar accidents will likely repeat, especially in adventure tourism, if competent agencies do not take fixing measures timely.

It requested adventure tourism sites and their managers to examine infrastructure and operation capacity, plant safety signs at necessary locations, and ready rescue staff at dangerous areas.

Local authorities were ordered to ensure travel companies’ compliance with related tourism operation regulations when the firms provide adventure tours.

Meanwhile, province-level departments of culture, sports and tourism must work with relevant agencies to adapt safety regulations to local tourism features, the ministry added.
