A representative from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has confirmed that the university admissions process for 2025 is proceeding normally and that the Ministry’s system and algorithms are functioning properly.
The 2025 admissions season has seen multiple issues arise - students who initially appeared to be admitted were later listed as rejected, some were accepted into lower-ranked choices despite meeting the requirements of their higher preferences, and many received no admission status updates at all on the national system.
Speaking to VietNamNet, a representative from MOET’s Department of Higher Education stated that the errors were primarily due to inaccurate data input and incorrect eligibility settings submitted by certain universities - not due to technical faults on the ministry’s side.
“Even if the error were from our system, we would take responsibility,” the official said. “But after careful review, we found no problems with the system or algorithm. The mistakes were isolated to a few institutions that misconfigured admissions requirements during the filtering process, affecting only some academic groups.”
According to MOET, the volume of data and the diversity of admission criteria and methods used by universities this year made minor errors inevitable. As in previous years, most problems stemmed from discrepancies in initial admissions data - such as special admission criteria, certificates of language proficiency, or incorrectly entered priority documentation. Other mistakes were due to manual data entry by university staff.
Under current regulations, resolving such issues is the responsibility of each university. However, the Ministry is available to support, guide, and, if necessary, coordinate with other institutions to help resolve these issues.
From the evening of August 23 onward, MOET has received and forwarded 20–30 student complaints daily to universities for resolution through various channels. After investigating more serious complaints, the Ministry promptly issued guidance to involved institutions. So far, most reported cases have been resolved according to proper procedures.
MOET clarified that cases where applicants were unable to view their admission status were due to delays or errors in university data submission. The Ministry emphasized that all eligible students would be notified in time to complete their enrollment.
