The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued the fine to Saigon Universe Joint Stock Company (Unicorp), the organiser of Miss Universe Vietnam, for "costumes contrary to the nation's customs and traditions."

Besides paying the fine, Unicorp was also barred from organising beauty and model contests for a period of nine months beginning July 29, 2022.

A representative of the company has said that they had acknowledged their mistake with local authorities and paid the fines, and they pledged not to repeat it.

Model Vu Nguyen Ha Anh attended the Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 final as a judge on June 25.

The 40-year-old model wore a see-through ao dai long dress which is a Vietnamese traditional attire, by designer Ly Qui Khanh. The outfit revealed the model's breasts when photographed with a camera flash.

The photos of Ha Anh at the event went viral on social websites and many of the public criticised her for tarnishing the image of the ao dai. The next day she sent her apology on her personal page, saying she was "sad and embarrassed" that the "unflattering images" were shown to the public.

"The dress looks nice and modest in natural light," she explained. "But I was not aware that it looked that revealing in flash light."

Designer Ly Qui Khanh also apologised to the public, saying that he and Ha Anh's crew both forgot to take a flash test before attending the event.

Model Ha Anh was a top 10 finisher at the Miss Universe Vietnam 2008 contest and named second runner-up at the Miss Vietnam Global 2008.
