Bui Quynh Hoa won the crown in the finale of Miss Universe Vietnam 2023 held on September 29 in HCM City. The 25-year-old Hanoi queen, who has experience in many beauty and fashion contests, has faced continual accusations that she already knew what questions she would receive in the Top 3 shortlist. Her answers were worded exactly as they were on Google. Social networks have been flooded with anti-Bui Quynh Hoa rumours that she had paid for the crown.

Both Bui Quynh Hoa and the organisers of Miss Universe Vietnam 2023 denied the accusations. Hoa explained that she had carefully prepared for the competition by reading lots of books and websites including Google.

"This was the third time I participated in this competition and so I tried my best to do even better than my first two attempts," Hoa said. "We had a chance to talk about this year's theme "The Beauty of Self-confidence,'' with an expert and I also read a lot about the theme on Google. I don't think that I was wrong consulting Google for my answer."

However, her critics have not accepted her explanations. Many people logged into the Miss Universe's fan page to leave negative comments about the newly-crowned Miss Vietnam Universe.

On Wednesday, Miss Universe Organisation posted an announcement on its homepage about the issue.

This organisation said that it had grasped the controversy and were in the process of working with the contest copyright holder in Vietnam to learn more about the incident.

"Thank you for highlighting your concerns about the 2023 Miss Vietnam competition - we hear you and we're looking into it," the announcement said. "It's extremely important to us that all pageants are judged fairly, and that we have your trust when it comes to every single delegate. We're working closely with our franchise partner in the country to learn more about what happened and ensure that every part of our programme is and has been, carried out with integrity."

The organisation said that they hoped people would be patient while they looked into the case.
