VietNamNet Bridge - Nearly a month after the video clip featuring Miss Vietnam 2014 Ky Duyen smoking at a café was posted on the Internet, the Miss Vietnam pageant organizing board has made the final decision on the case.

In a meeting on August 5, the organizers decided to reprimand Ky Duyen for her behavior that negatively affected the image of Miss Vietnam and Miss Vietnam pageant.

The organizers asked Ky Duyen, a native from the Northern city of Nam Dinh, to address her behavior, her lifestyle and actively improve her public image.

The organizing board decided to not use the image of Ky Duyen as the representative image of the Miss Vietnam 2016 and to not invite her to participate in the finale of the pageant in HCM City from August 11 through 28. Therefore, Ky Duyen will not hand over the crown to the next Miss Vietnam as usual.

Ky Duyen has been widely criticized after a video showed her smoking in a coffee shop was posted online on July 12. Ky Duyen, 20, was called on to give up her title.

The smoking incident has been added to the list her detractors have compiled, including her appearance, her sleeping position on a flight, and her showing up late at many events, to express their frustration at the former beauty queen.

However, Duyen was bullied into publishing an apology on her Facebook page, saying that she should have been more careful and responsible with such a “socially controversial act”.

While many people have expressed sympathy saying that smoking is hardly rare, and felt sorry for her lack of privacy, many people claimed it wasn’t part of Vietnamese culture.

Ky Duyen wrote a letter of apology to the organizing board of Miss Vietnam pageant and the public for her behavior.
