The 28-year-old beauty previously became the first representative from the Mekong Delta region to be crowned Miss Vietnam after her victory in the pageant in 2012.

She is originally from Bac Lieu province. In 2012 she won the Miss Mekong Delta beauty pageant and went on to be crowned winner of the Miss Vietnam pageant in the same year.

During the Miss Vietnam 2012 pageant, Thao won the sub-title for Most Beautiful Face.
