Earlier on January 13, officials from the office found 10 Vietnamese, nine men and one woman, living at private hostels after they were reported missing.

On January 15, three Vietnamese men belonging to the missing group were arrested while working illegally at a food production plant on the island. The same day, the agency found six other people living at guest houses.

The missing people were part of a group of 146 Vietnamese tourists travelling from Ha Noi to Jeju island on a six-day trip.

The office said it would continue to investigate whether these people were trying to search for illegal employment in South Korea, in addition to tightening controls at airports, ports, hostels and production bases, to prevent them from fleeing to other provinces.
