On May 2, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, or CAAV, told airports and carriers to use passenger data stored in VNeID app to verify their personal identity during check-in and security procedures.

If passengers do not have smartphones using VNeID app, they can use documents such as ID cards, driver’s licenses and press cards for boarding.

The above regulation is in compliance with the guidance of the Ministry of Public Security on electronic identification and authentication, as stated in Decree 59.

Chip-based ID card holders can now ask for level-2 eID accounts where their personal information can be accessed.
