VietNamNet Bridge – Mobile malls selling goods at normal prices and stable property taxes on houses rented by workers are among several measures that HCM City has taken to help the latter deal with inflationary conditions.

The city's Department of Industry and Trade is setting up mobile malls around industrial parks (IP) and export processing zones (EPZ) to sell goods at stable prices for employees.

The Taxation Department, meanwhile, will ensure that property tax rates on houses rented to workers are not increased, so that rentals remain unchanged as well.

Local authorities and trade unions in every ward will request landlords not to increase water and power bills paid by their worker tenants.

The Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will directly inspect IPs and EPZs to make sure that labour contracts are adhered to and welfare measures for workers are taken in a timely manner by employers.

Meanwhile, the management board of Tan Thuan EPZ on Monday reversed its previous decision to evacuate all the workers from a dormitory for rebuilding, according to a report by the Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon) newspaper.

The new building will now be constructed section by section and the board would allocate temporary houses for workers so that they do not have to rent accommodation outside the EPZ at a time when prices are high, the report said.

Also on Monday, the city Trade Unions' Federation set up a hotline for responding to worker inquiries on policies, wages and welfare rights.

Workers can also visit the federation's office in person for information and advice. The federation has requested its representatives in each IP to work harder and ensure that welfare policies for workers are implemented properly.
