The Son La provincial People’s Committee has issued a plan for the 2026 Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week, aimed at implementing national and provincial policies on cultural and tourism development while promoting the landscapes, culture and people of Son La. The event will also celebrate the cultural identities of local ethnic communities, attract visitors, strengthen tourism links and further develop the potential of the Moc Chau National Tourism Area.

Running from August 27 to September 5, 2026, at the Moc Chau National Tourism Area, the event will bring together around 400 delegates and nearly 1,500 artisans, performers, athletes, businesses and support staff. A continuous programme combining traditional culture, arts, sports, tourism experiences and trade promotion is designed to create a lively festival atmosphere throughout the National Day holiday.

A highlight of this year’s Culture and Tourism Week will be the 2026 Son La International Brocade Festival, themed “Weaving heritage, connecting colours”, to be held on the evening of August 31 at August 5 Square in Moc Chau Ward. The programme will combine artistic performances with brocade fashion shows, presenting traditional weaving as a bridge for cultural exchange while celebrating the diversity of ethnic cultures in Vietnam and around the world.

On the evening of September 1, the “Moc Chau – The call of the season of love” art programme will take place. Alongside a range of performances, the evening will feature a fireworks display lasting about 10 minutes to celebrate Vietnam’s National Day on September 2.

Visitors will also be able to immerse themselves in experiences showcasing the distinctive cultures of ethnic communities in Vietnam’s northwestern region. These include 14 Culture and Tourism Camps as well as folk singing and dancing by Hmong, Thai, Dao and Muong communities along several streets in central Moc Chau. Between 200 and 250 artisans and community performers will take part in mass demonstrations of traditional activities such as pao ball throwing, Hmong glutinous rice cake pounding, shuttlecock games, stick wrestling, “dragon hatching eggs” and a variety of other folk games.

As part of Culture and Tourism Week, a number of popular attractions across Moc Chau and Van Ho will simultaneously introduce visitor experiences and improve service quality to accommodate holidaymakers.

According to a representative of the Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, participating units are now working to ensure adequate facilities and staffing, while rehearsals for artistic programmes are underway. Plans are also being prepared to ensure public security and order, environmental hygiene, traffic safety, fire prevention and firefighting, food safety, communications, decorations and other arrangements for the event.
