CBS 9004, a new rescue ship and tugboat for the Viet Nam Coast Guard, was launched on Saturday.

The 3500CV CBS 9004 is a rescue ship that can work in stormy weather conditions for as long as 30 days. It is the third of four ships for which the two firms have signed a deal.

The Da Nang-based shipbuilder has begun work on a multi-purpose ship, DN2000, for the coast guard.

The ship, which is 90.5m long and 14m wide, is one of the most modern convenience ships. It has a helipad and can travel as fast as 21 nautical miles per hour. The ship can withstand Force 12 winds (118-132kmh).

Also on Saturday, the Damen Group presented a high-power light and four seawater filtering systems to the coast guard.

Earlier on Friday, the Song Thu Shipyard Corporation, in co-operation with the Damen Group, began work on a dredger, the TSHD2000, for Russia's Rosmorport company.

It's the first ship that the company is building for a Russian customer.

The ship, which is 80.35m long and 16.20m wide, will be delivered next September.

The corporation, a major shipbuilder in Viet Nam, has so far built 24 vessels for export, including fast crew supply ships, rescue ships, salvage tugs, drive tugs and patrol boats, for the Middle East, South America, Europe and domestic markets. It has an annual export volume of around US$55 million. The shipbuilder earned VND1.5 trillion ($71 million) in 2013.
