An analyst described the situation "tangled like bamboo shavings".

National television VTV has quoted a Ministry of Education and Training’s (MOET) report as saying that 10,000 pedagogy school graduates will remain unemployed.

Lao Dong newspaper reported that some students in Ha Tinh province have given up their study because they are not sure if they can find teaching jobs after graduation.

Nguyen Hoai Giang from Can Loc district is one of them. In 2014, Giang passed the entrance exam to the Quy Nhon University and became a student of the education management faculty of the school. However, Giang decided to give up the dream of becoming a teacher after one year of study.

“I have realized that a lot of school graduates will be unemployed. I think I’d better to go to a vocational school,” he said, adding that he needs a job which allows him to earn money, not a bachelor’s degree which he will put into the drawer.

The analyst commented that MOET may be unsure about what to do and how to produce good teachers. Many Excellent high school graduates refuse to enter pedagogical schools.

Nguyen Tan Phat, former MOET Deputy Minister, commented that many students studied at pedagogy schools just because they could not pass the exams to study the ‘hot majors’ they wanted, where the competition is very high. Meanwhile, others choose pedagogy schools because they don't have to pay tuition.

The headmaster of a primary school in Binh Thanh Primary School in HCM City commented that education universities are ‘in big difficulties’ as they cannot enroll capable students, while they have to stop some training majors because of the lack of learners.

A newly graduated teacher can earn VND3.6 million a month, while a teacher with 15-year experience can earn VND7 million and VND8 million only after 25 years of working.

Tuoi Tre reported that while the state has to allocate a big budget every year to train pedagogy school students (students of the schools don’t have to pay tuition), the schools’ graduates do not intend to work as teachers after they finish school. This is a big waste of society’s resources.
