The initiative is part of Mondelēz International’s program in South East Asia that focuses on three core pillars: Nutrition Education, Active Lifestyle, and Access to Fresh Food.

The program attracted 2,500 students of the two primary schools of Di Su and Ban Yen Nhan Town No.1 in My Hao District, Hung Yen Province. Forty volunteers from the Hanoi Medical University and 100 volunteers from Mondelez Kinh Do shared over 400 hours to bring joy to the students.

The ‘Joy Schools” program will continue with a series of meaningful activities in the 2017-2018 school year, aiming to enhancing nutrition education, promoting physical activity, and guiding the students on how to access fresh food.

The program includes hosting a Nutrition Day to share the importance of breakfast and nutrition education for students; health check-up and BMI calculation sessions; the upgrading of playgrounds to encourage physical exercise; and the building of an indoor mushroom garden for students to have better access to fresh food.

Nutrition Day

Mondelez Kinh Do volunteers were actively involved in the Joy Schools program by guiding students in various exciting activities. They created nutrition awareness by instilling in students the importance of healthy eating habits and making balanced food choices. Through video clips, sketch, visual aids, games and paintings, students learned more about proper nutrition, particularly the importance of breakfast.

Students were also guided in preparing simple yet nutritious dishes.

These activities enable the students to gain knowledge about nutrition and safe food and how they contribute to maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

Health Check-up and BMI Calculation

At the beginning and end of the school year, Mondelez Kinh Do will coordinate with the volunteers of the Hanoi Medical University and the medical staff of the schools to conduct a comprehensive healthcheck for the students.

Upgrading playground to encourage physical activities

To encourage physical activities among students, Mondelez Kinh Do provides schools with playground equipment such as football portals, basketball rings, and balls. In addition, the walls around the playground will be decorated to inspire them to promote physical engagement and collaborative learning among students.

Better access to fresh food with indoor mushroom garden

The program also sponsors an indoor mushroom garden within the school campus. This model is designed to encourage students to engage in more practical activities outside school hours by raising and harvesting mushroom, while also adding a fresh, nutritious food source to the school meal.
